November 9, 2021-French company MICROOLED's augmented reality (AR) division and AR smart glasses technology provider ActiveLook today announced its new "NexT" technology platform. With NexT, the company aims to reinvent sports glasses by using its miniaturization and invisible AR technology to display basic sports performance data with zero obstacles to the wearer's field of vision.

According to the company, ActiveLook NexT provides a comprehensive hardware package and an open API, which will enable the company to produce lightweight connected glasses (30-34g) that provide head-up displays of critical data. ActiveLook's technology is designed to improve the practice and performance of sports athletes and can display useful and basic data in real time, such as speed, heart rate and direction. The company said that combined with professional software, its miniaturized invisible microdisplay technology can be integrated into glasses without affecting the design or ergonomics, so it will not hinder the wearer's line of sight.

The core of the ActiveLook module is based on a monochrome AMOLED display with a resolution of 304 x 256 pixels and power consumption of less than 1 milliwatt. According to the company, ActiveLook has a battery life of more than 12 hours and weighs only 6 grams, providing a readable display regardless of ambient light conditions. ActiveLook devices are connected to smartphones, smart watches, and some more specific sensors (heart rate sensors, power sensors, etc.) via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).

ActiveLook founder Eric Marcellin-Dibon commented: “The mass adoption of AR relies on discrete integration. Consumers are not prepared to wear superhero helmets, but they definitely want glasses to help them observe and conduct activities better. We believe ActiveLook is an inevitable technological evolution of glasses that has made our lives easier for centuries."

ActiveLook OEM business line manager Marc Vernet added: “NexT is a new generation of glasses platform, which fully embodies our vision for ActiveLook: a solution to deliver actual information through ultra-light and stylish glasses. Our highly customizable platform is compatible with The combination of a rich and growing ActiveLook compatible application ecosystem provides our partners with unprecedented shortcuts to create cutting-edge experiences on the move!"

With its smartphone-connected glasses, ActiveLook specifically targets the sports market, where augmented reality can be used as a navigation aid and physical performance reporting technology to bring significant benefits to athletes such as cyclists, runners, skiers, and triathletes. Advantage.

ActiveLook will showcase its NexT technology platform at Booth 178 of the Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Santa Clara, California this week. The NexT platform will be available in the first quarter of 2022. For more information about ActiveLook and its sports glasses AR solution, please click here.
