The PT26 is a new year-round alloy wheelset from CES Sport. The ‘PT’ is short for Pedwar Tymor, Welsh for ‘four seasons’.

Priced from £400, going up to £545 with tubeless kit and Continental GP5000 tyres (rim or disc brake), these wheels are premium for alloy rims, but numerous features set them apart from standard aftermarket wheels.

The rim with anodised matte black finish is infused with tough niobium, and the Sapim Leader spokes with brass makes for a classy appearance.

A 2-cross, asymmetrical spoke lacing pattern for the rear wheel toughens things up for winter riding and you have the option to run tubeless.

For our rim brake test pair, rim tape, brake blocks and skewers were included. A 19mm internal and 24mm external width allowed us to run 28mm tyres comfortably, and on the road the PT26 wheels did everything they said on the tin.

They deal with poor road conditions and dodgy weather easily, and acceleration is surprisingly good for alloy wheels.

A pleasant hum is audible from the quality Bitex RAR12 (24h) rear hub and when you ramp the speed up quickly the 48 points of engagement help to ensure none of your effort is wasted when accelerating.

That said, 1,640g a pair isn’t the lightest at this price point, with wheels like the Mavic Ksyrium S coming in at a claimed 1,570g; however, the PT26 wheels are some of the most versatile out there.

They’re tubeless-ready, wide enough to run winter road tyres and come with everything you need to get riding out of the box.

Verdict: A versatile, solid and dependable, high-end training wheelset.
