Costa Sunglasses, a longtime leader in the conservation space, has been awarded the prestigious RELX SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Customer Award for its Untangle our Oceans campaign. Costa is one of four organizations around the world receiving the award for its significant and demonstrable contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Untangle our Oceans campaign and collection of sunglasses bring light to the most harmful form of plastic pollution in our oceans today, discarded fishing nets and gear. In partnership with Bureo, Costa gives discarded fishing nets a new life in its Untangled Collection of lifestyle and performance sunglasses that are made from 97% to 100% recycled fishing nets. Through this innovative partnership, Costa is helping to reduce ocean plastic pollution, protect biodiversity, and champion circular economy principles.

The SDG Customer Awards are presented by RELX, a global provider of information and analytics for professional and business customers across industries. RELX supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through its unique contributions to society, including universal, sustainable access to information. Since 1983, Costa has been committed to protect the watery world it calls home through product innovation, conservation partnerships, coastal cleanups, reducing single use plastic, and more. Its conservation efforts specifically speak to SDG Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. “We are incredibly grateful for this award and our partnership with Bureo,” says Vice President of Marketing at Costa, John Acosta. “Conservation is in our DNA. From our products, partnerships, and Costa-led programs, we not only live to be on the water but want to protect it for future generations. This is our higher calling and we are more committed than ever to continue in our mission to protect and preserve the waterways that we all call home.”
