Currently, Ether proves the slimness and lightness of VR headsets. EM3 believes that this will allow more people to wear VR headsets for longer periods without fatigue due to heavy equipment.
The EM3 Ether prototype glass contains two microdisplays with a full-color resolution of 2560×2560 pixels. Currently, the glasses provide 80° FOV (field of view) for each eye, although EM3 claims that by using a larger format micro-display, FOV can be pushed to 100° without seeing any increase in thickness of the glasses—— The current measurement is a record 6.8 mm.
Given that the Ether prototypes are very slim (they are thinner than most mobile phones), it currently does not have the processing power to operate as a standalone VR headset and needs to be connected to external devices such as smartphones or PCs.
